
Places to see in Avanos
Avanos is one of the most important attractions of the Cappadocia region with its unique fairy chimneys, valleys, underground cities and churches, where handicrafts such as pottery, carpet making and winemaking are developed.
Zelve Valley is the most important open air museum of the region and is located 3km from Avanos. There are 15 churches accompanying hundreds of interesting fairy chimneys. It is also an important destination for trekking enthusiasts.
Paşabağ is located 3.5 km ahead of Avanos, on the Zelve road. It is also known as the valley of the monks. Paşabağ is a region where fairy chimneys with hats are dense. Çavuşin is one of the oldest settlements carved into the rock masses of the Cappadocia region.
Another must-see place is the Özkonak Underground City, located 13km from Avanos. The monastery of Belha is located on the south of the town of Özkonak on the side of a hill facing the stream. The Dervent Valley between Zelve open air museum and Ürgüp is a beautiful hiking and sightseeing trail.
Sarıhan Caravanserai, a Seljuk historical heritage, is also a beautiful place to see. Dereyamanlı Church, Çeç Bridge, St. John the Baptist Church, Hacı Nur Bey Mansion (Old Tekel Building) are places you should see.
