Afyon Guide

The city of Afyon, located in Central Western Anatolia, is today at the forefront with its thermal facilities and healing waters. The city, which was previously known for its cream and Turkish delight, has made great progress in the field of thermal tourism in recent years and is now known for its healing waters not only in our country but also abroad.
Originally belonging to the Aegean Region, Afyon shows the climate characteristics of the Central Anatolia Region due to its distance from the sea. Winters are cold and rainy and summers are hot. Afyon, a small Anatolian city, is now taking firm steps towards becoming a big city with its large university, social activities and tourism development.
Afyon may not be a city we visit all the time, but it is remembered as a city where we always stop off on our way to Aegean or Mediterranean resorts and taste its clotted cream, Turkish delight or have a nice and short sausage feast.
Evliya Çelebi mentioned Afyon in his Seyahatname. We learn from this that the name of Afyon was once Karahisari Sahip. When the Seljuks conquered this place, they called it Karahisar because of the fortresses in the region. Later, inspired by Sahib Ataoğlu, one of the Seljuk beys, they named it Karahisari Sahib. Thus, it could be distinguished from the Karahisar town in many other cities. The history of Afyon as a settlement also goes back to ancient times. We understand from the ruins that have survived until today that Afyon has been home to many deep-rooted civilizations. The traces of these civilizations are reflected in both the culture and history of Afyon. Today, it is still possible to see traces of history in many places.
Afyon was chosen as a pilot region by the Ministry of Tourism and infrastructure and development works were prioritized. With thermal resources, it has come to the forefront in tourism. Moreover, with its university and social activities, it is not only for touristic or health purposes but also for business purposes.
There are many facilities in Afyon to host the guests who have increased in recent years. In addition to the thermal Afyon hotels, it is also possible to find boutique and small hotels. There are even accommodation facilities with historical features. Afyon hotels located in the city center are mostly serving as city hotels.
No matter which of the Afyon boutique hotels you stay in, you will be very satisfied. Afyon boutique hotels with almost all of today's modern facilities are open all year round. Moreover, you can choose many Afyon hotels not only for your touristic travels but also for your business trips and special invitations.

Afyon hotels generally serve as bed and breakfast. However, you can also find full board service especially in large thermal facilities. No matter where your hotel is located, it is very easy to reach historical and touristic places.
The prices of Afyon hotels generally vary according to the quality of the hotel you stay in and whether it is thermal or not. However, it is possible to find an Afyon hotel suitable for almost every tourist's budget.

Mevlevism in Afyon:
Afyon Mevlevihanesi is one of the first Mevlevihanes established in Anatolia. Its foundation dates back to the 13th century. Afyonkarahisar Mevlevi Lodge, which has been the center of many important activities throughout history, is the most important Mevlevi Lodge after Konya Mevlevi Lodge. Especially in the 16th century, during the time of Sultan Divani, one of the seventh umbilical grandsons of Hz. Mevlana, it became a very important center for Mevlevism. In addition, the tradition of “40 Hatimli Healing Ashura”, which did not exist in other Mevlevîhâns, started here for the first time and spread to many Mevlevîhâns from here.Afyonkarahisar Mevlevîhânesi, which had suffered several fires, was rebuilt after the great fire in 1902 with the special efforts of Sultan Abdülhamit II, the sultan of the period, and regained its present form. In addition, the tomb of “Fatma Zehra Hatun”, the mother of our Patriotic Poet Namık Kemal, is also located here.
Matbah-ı Şerif (Kitchen) and Dervish Rooms in the garden were restored and put into service as a museum.
