Antalya Guide
In our country and even in the world in recent years, Antalya is the first place that comes to mind when it comes to the centre of the holiday in the Mediterranean. Antalya is now a world-famous holiday paradise with its history, natural beauties, long sunny days and summer season, magnificent sea.
Antalya is one of the favourite places of holidaymakers. A place like paradise, Antalya is a city where you can swim in the sparkling sea and sunbathe on that unique beach or climb to the top of the mountains, watching the Mediterranean Sea from the gulf waters, leaning its back against Beydağları, a city that is frequently mentioned in history.
Antalya is also known as the ‘Turkish Riviera’ with all its beauties. Many local and foreign tourists visit the city every year. Moreover, not only in the summer months, but every period of the year. Because Antalya has a very mild climate even in winter.
When you come to Antalya, both sightseeing, dining and shopping in Kaleiçi, Kesik Minaret or a little outside Kurşunlu and Duden Waterfall and Karain Cave, Phaselis Ancient City, Aspendos Theatre, Perge, Saklıkent and Konyaaltı and Lara Beaches, Beycik Mountain and Village are places you should visit. Çıralı, Adrasan, Olympos, Demre, Kaş, Kalkan, Patara, which are magnificent with their nature, history and sea, are among the places where you should stay at least one or two nights.
The history of Antalya as a settlement dates back to the stone age. The biggest proof of this is the Palaeolithic Age finds found in Karain Cave near Yağca Village. Karataş Semahöyük excavations also yielded a large amount of Old Bronze Age finds. It is suggested by historians that the country of Ahiyava or Arzova mentioned in the cuneiform tablets of the Hittites could be Pamphylia (Antalya). However, except for a few finds except Side, no finds were found here. In Greek legends, it is written that after the Trojan War, some Achaean clans reached Pamphylia under the direction of Kalkhas. The origin of the Lydians who settled within the borders of Antalya is not known for certain. According to Hittite and Egyptian sources, it is possible that a tribe named Lükki or Lükka in 2000 BC were Lydians. This tribe was mentioned for the first time during the reign of the Lydian King Kroissos.
The Antalya region was once under the Lydian Kingdom. With the defeat of King Kroissos to the Persian King Kyros, 546 BC, Persians dominated this region until Alexander. In 334 BC, Alexander, King of Macedonia, marched to Pamphylia through Lydia and captured the cities here except Silyon. The city of Termesos in Psidia resisted Alexander by not surrendering.
After these times, the lands of Antalya, which was home to many states such as Lydians, Romans, Byzantines, were taken over by the Seljuks and the Turks. After the Ottomans, Antalya was included in the territory of our country with the Republic.
In today's Antalya, which is Turkey's gateway to the world in tourism, there is a Kaleiçi, which sits on the 2nd century BC Attaleia and an even earlier settlement whose name is unknown. At the northeastern end, where the Hellenistic-Roman walls, which surrounded the city on three sides until recently, are opened to give passage to the city, it is entered by a three-arched Hadrian's Gate built in honour of the emperor's arrival to the city in 1300 AD.
Antalya is a route visited by many local and foreign tourists for years. Because it hosts many different holiday resorts within its borders. There are many blue flagged, clean beaches and seas. So much so that the back side of most beaches is covered with lush forest cover. A holiday intertwined with the deep blue sea on one side and lush green nature on the other side is probably the preference of all of us.
There are many accommodation facilities for tourists in Antalya, both in the city centre and in the surrounding districts and holiday centres.
