Bartın is a city located in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of settlements dating back to the Hittite and Roman periods. The city was known as Parthenios during the Byzantine Empire and later as Bartin during the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century, Bartin became an important center for the timber industry and was connected to the rest of the country by rail.
