Beykoz Guide
Beykoz is one of the districts that has still managed to preserve the green and blue of Istanbul. It is also known as the pearl of the Bosphorus. While it is one of the districts of the metropolis, you can sometimes feel like you are in a summer resort in Beykoz. Beykoz, one of the favorite places for weekend getaways, is a corner of paradise in the city and away from the noise of the city.
With its lush forests, magnificent Bosphorus view, deep blue sea and beautiful picnic areas, Beykoz is among the places where nature lovers can escape and hunting enthusiasts will prefer. Sea, history, creek, greenery, sea... You can find everything you would want for a weekend getaway. We can actually call Beykoz a beautiful fishing town. Especially when you walk through its streets in spring, the scent of linden and honeysuckle trees surrounds you. You can even go there to walk through the narrow cobblestone streets and feel the scents that spread into the air with the mixture of floral scents and iodine scents.
Beykoz is located in the Çatalca Kocaeli Department of the Marmara Region. The climate of the town is a mixture of Mediterranean and Black Sea climate. Therefore, it is neither as hot as the Mediterranean climate nor as rainy as the Black Sea climate. The history of Beykoz dates back to ancient times, according to known sources, approximately 2700 years before today. But it is not known who first came and settled in these lands. It is known that during the Roman period, those who wanted to sail to the Black Sea sacrificed here in the name of Zeus and Poseidon, making it a place of sacrifice. After Beykoz was taken over by the Turks, it is clear that the town became a hunting ground. With the hunting mansions built for the Ottoman sultans and viziers, the town turns into a hunting and entertainment center.
Beykoz's current name comes from the 1400s when the town was annexed to the Ottoman lands by Yıldız Beyazıt. It takes its name “bey” from the rulers living here and ‘koz’ from the Persian word “koz” meaning village. So Beykoz is the “Village of Beys”...
