Beypazarı guide

Famous for its houses, which are even the subject of Evliya Çelebi's Seyahatname, Beypazarı is a district of Ankara. The history of the settlement dates back to the 8th century BC. The first owners were the Hittites. Later, it was home to Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman civilizations. Beypazarı, which has a worldwide reputation for its houses, has managed to preserve its architectural texture that smells of history. The houses in the old part of the district, which is built on steep slopes and valleys, are two-three-storey houses with bay windows and a roof called guşgana. Beypazari houses are built of wooden material. Wooden Beypazari houses are plastered with a local material known as sweet lime, which absorbs moisture and dirty air inside the room. In Beypazari houses, whose ground floor is made of stone and the other floors are made of wood, there are cellars with iron doors at the entrance, built to store valuable items. An intertwined structuring stands out on the streets. Beypazarı houses have a history of hundreds of years, the oldest of which dates back to the 13th century. The windows have two wings and are generally rectangular. Doors are double or single winged and topped with a wooden lattice. Today, there are approximately 3500 houses with these features from Beypazarı houses, which are famous for their local dialect, bay windows, cobblestone streets, houses with porches and dead-end streets.
