There are numerous historic and touristic bazaars in Istanbul. Leading the list, of course, are the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar! Located in Eminönü, the Spice Bazaar is the city's second-largest covered market, constructed in the latter half of the 1600s, and today it extensively reflects the traces of the past. Nearly everything you're looking for is available here, from herbalists and jewelers to fabric dealers and nut-sellers.
The Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest bazaars in Istanbul, covers a large area and is a favorite among foreign tourists. Many European writers and travelers have also mentioned the bazaar in their works. The streets and avenues inside the bazaar are named according to professions, making it a fun and unique experience to explore.
Another noteworthy site is the Sahaflar Çarşısı, known as the oldest booksellers’ market that dates back to the Ottoman era, located between the Grand Bazaar and Bayezit Mosque. Even if you're not a book enthusiast, the range of books available makes it a historical site worth visiting.
Additionally, the Markiz Passage on Istiklal Street in Taksim is a must-see for lovers of authentic shopping experiences. Its history dates back to around the 1840s, and it is architecturally beautiful.
Known to tourists as the Arasta Bazaar, the Sipahi Çarşısı is another old market worth visiting. The bazaar, consisting of shops lined up on both sides, offers everything from old handwoven carpets to antiques and various touristic items.
