The history of this settlement, whose old name was Venessa, dates back to ancient times. There are also Sarıhan Caravanserai and Alaaddin Mosque dating from the Seljuk State period in the 13th century. Alaaddin Mosque was built in 1202 on behalf of Alaaddin Keykubat. Not only historical values but also Kızılırmak has a share in Avanos becoming a tourism center. Kızılırmak flows through the center of Avanos and divides the district into two parts from east to west. Stone Bridge, Suspension Bridge and two ring roads connect these two parts.The stone bridge was built by Sultan Abdulhamid II to be completed in 1900. While the stone bridge was the only vehicle bridge, due to the excessive load on it, deterioration occurred on the bridge legs and a new ring road was built on the eastern side of the district, so this historical bridge was closed to vehicle traffic. The Suspension Bridge, built in 1973, is 180 meters long and 2.30 meters wide and was built only for pedestrian walking. Especially the section above Kızılırmak offers an exciting and enjoyable trip to tourists by swinging like a swing. You can also come across ducks of various species on this river.Of course, a unique beauty of the region is the fairy chimneys that made it so famous. Avanos, located on both sides of the Kızılırmak River in the east of Nevşehir, has become one of the most important tourist attractions with its fairy chimneys.
