History of Turkbuku

Located on the Bodrum Peninsula, about 20 kilometers north of Bodrum, Türkbükü is a holiday resort famous for its natural beauty and lively atmosphere. The history of Turkbuku dates back to ancient times. In ancient times, the region was under the influence of the Carian Civilization. During the Carian period, there was a harbor and settlements in the area where Türkbükü is located. In ancient times, this harbor was known as “Tiryakiler” or “Tirazaklar”. During the Ottoman period, the area where Türkbükü is located was an important defense point as part of Bodrum Castle. During the Ottoman period, the area consisted of small villages, mostly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. However, the touristic importance of Türkbükü began to grow from the mid-20th century. In the 1960s and 1970s, Türkbükü gradually began to become an important tourist center of Bodrum.
