Archaeological findings indicate that the region has traces of ancient settlements dating back to 1200 BC. The area, known as Aiolis in antiquity, housed significant settlements dating back to 1700 BC. The most magnificent cities of the Hellenistic period include Pitane, now known as Çandarlı; Pergamon, known as Bergama; Lesbos, known as Midilli; and Aternus, now recognized as Dikili.

Kalem Island boasts lush greenery and a sea that displays every shade of blue, making it a must-see destination. Its pristine beaches are also Blue Flag certified. The island can be reached by boat from the Dikili district, with the journey taking only a few minutes.
