Transportation to Eastern Anatolia depends on the transportation method you prefer. It is possible to reach this vast and historical region by air, road and rail.
If you want to go by plane, there are airports in cities such as Erzurum, Van, Malatya, Elazığ, Kars, Muş, Muş, Ağrı and Iğdır. There are regular flights to these destinations from major cities, especially Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.
For those who prefer to travel by bus, there are direct bus services from many cities in Turkey to the cities in Eastern Anatolia. However, since the journey to some cities in the region can take a long time, it may be more comfortable to travel at night.
If you want to go by train, especially the Eastern Express and the Touristic Eastern Express offer an unforgettable journey from Ankara to Kars. Van Lake Express and South Kurtalan Express are also good alternatives for those who want to go to Eastern Anatolia.
For those who want to travel by private car, although the roads in the region are mostly smooth, it is necessary to be careful due to heavy snowfall and icing during the winter months. It is approximately 1300 km from Istanbul to Erzurum and 650 km from Ankara to Malatya.
