Marmaris Selimiye Guide
Selimiye, known as Hydas in ancient times, is one of the most popular holiday centers of recent years. Once a quaint village, it has an increasing tourism potential in recent years. Selimiye is a town located in the southwest of Marmaris. It is located approximately 35 kilometers from the center of the district. While its people used to live on fishing, beekeeping and olive cultivation, tourism has become one of the most important sources of income in recent years. Selimiye does not have very long beaches, but it has a clear and clean sea and a wonderful nature. It is one of the most frequented places especially by blue tour enthusiasts and yachtsmen. Sığliman Bay, one of Turkey's famous marinas, is also located in Selimiye. It is one of the rare untouched beauties of the Mediterranean. It is protected as a natural protected area. Concrete piles have not covered the town much yet. However, its growth has accelerated in recent years. The number of tourists coming every year is increasing. Selimiye's bay is also very calm and almost closed like a natural lake. There are also many natural harbors in the region. These natural harbors are spawning grounds for fish. Like many towns in Marmaris, Selimiye has many historical ruins. Selimiye, which was home to the Hydas civilization in ancient times, today has ruins from ancient times in three or four different areas. The remains of the city walls from Hellenistic times, the remains of monumental tombs, the lighthouse built to guide the boats coming to the shore are among the remaining artifacts. There is also a theater and a monastery in the region. The ruins excavated from the sunken cities in the region are exhibited today at the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
