Papuli Köyevi Village Houes and Restaurant is located in a small village called Camcukur, at the foot of the Samanlı Mountains. Camcukur Village was built by the Laz community, an ethnic group who moved from their origins in the city of Artvin on the Black Sea coast following the Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-1878. In the 140 years since, Black Sea-style architecture is still very present in the village, as is the friendliness and renowned hospitality that is typical of Black Sea peoples.
Papuli is a two-storey stone house built in 1958 by the hotel owner’s grandfather. After a period of being unoccupied, the house was restored to high specification in 2016 and turned into a small hotel. It has 7 rooms, a separate dining area and a large garden. Every single room has been decorated meticulously with vintage furniture and handmade home accessories. The hotel also has a very cosy sitting area containing a fireplace on the ground floor and a reading corner with a small library on the upper floor.
Papuli is already well-known for its beautifully presented delicious Turkish breakfasts, and also has an appetising set of lunch and dinner menus covering Laz, Bosniak and Turkish cuisines. All ingredients are supplied from local shops and food markets, and the meals are prepared by staff who are local to the village. Set in rolling green gardens with a sea vista, this is a charming family hotel that takes you back in time to rich village living.
The hotel is overlooking Izmit Bay and only 1 hour away from İstanbul. It is a great place to be for those who wish to escape from the city crowd.
Papuli is also available for business/social meetings, birthday celebrations, weddings etc. Please see our gallery for photos.
