As you approach the Big Island, Splendid Palace Hotel has an architectural structure that immediately catches your attention from the sea. With its two silver domes, it almost says "I am different". Its white, wood-covered exterior and red window shutters continue to maintain its extraordinary appeal. Approximately 500 meters from the port, the hotel also has a very central location. It has a majestic and majestic appearance when viewed from the sea. When you enter through the garden gate, new things are added to the magnificence seen from afar. You go up the stairs to the balcony section, where there is a white wrought iron table and white wrought iron chairs with red cushions. I recommend you stop here for a while. Because if you enter the hotel immediately, you will miss the magnificent view. Turn back and enjoy the view of the sea and Istanbul behind for a few minutes. Please enjoy being welcomed to a place where you can hardly hear any sound other than the sounds of carriages passing in front of the hotel and the calls of seagulls. After breathing in some island air, you can now go inside. When you enter through a wooden double door, you will enter a hall where different accessories, objects and furniture from the early 1900s are decorated and created. You can reach the wooden reception on the right side of the entrance. In fact, if you want, you can go into the living room on the left and sit by the large window and watch the view and even the objects in the living room while having a Turkish coffee. Each one is beautiful in its own way, each one seems to defy time. Vases, armchairs, paintings, chandeliers, lampshades, curtains, sconces... The high ceiling height provides additional spaciousness to the living room illuminated by the large window. You can even travel in time by sitting on the couch and closing your eyes. Or, by reading the history of the hotel, you can research who stayed here, when it existed, how it was built, and its technical features to increase your admiration even more. Because you will see that it is one of the oldest structures on the island. To make your job easier, I suggest you review the historical process of the hotel on its website. Since 1908, that is, if we connect it with the history education we receive in schools, World War II. Splendid Palace has been standing since the Constitutional Monarchy. It seems like it has defied the years. Neither organizations were organized nor doors were opened for charity work. There were invitations attended by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and Republic balls were also organized in the past. Sakızlı Müşir Kazım Pasha, inspired by the hotel architectures he saw in Europe, wanted to build a hotel that would be a synthesis of east and west. Architect Kaludi Laskaris Kalfa took part in its production. Its construction started in 1905 and it was opened in 1908. If we have had our coffee and read its history, we can continue touring the hotel. When we leave the hall and turn left, let's turn left again before reaching the stairs and go approximately 10 meters to see the magical middle hall. When you enter, you will see the gap extending to the top of the building. The banisters of each floor facing the central hall, the doors of all rooms... Wooden and bamboo material seating groups, the living room flowers that give the hall a freshness... This is a pleasant and extraordinary hall where weddings, weddings, cocktails, etc. organizations are held. There is a huge black grand piano in the corner on the left, accompanying the elegance of the hall. If you want, take a breather here. Go back to the entrance hall, this time go to the dining room on the right side of the hotel entrance. First, a huge wooden table in the middle invites you to a friendly atmosphere. Again, a spacious living room welcomes you due to the high ceiling and plenty of light... Rooms... Each facing a different direction, where you can encounter different views. The view of the front façade is incomparably beautiful. There is sea as far as the eye can see... By the way, the French balcony in front of almost every room allows you to breathe in the island air and feel the sea inside you. I suggest you evaluate it.

Splendid Palace Hotel was inaugurated in 1908. Though inspired to some extent by “Art Nouveau”, the hotel clearly displays an east /west synthesis in architectural design with its bright inner courtyard encircled with rooms, and the pillars on floors around the courtyard. Splendid Palace has been operated by the founding family since the beginning according to the heritage by the 6th generation family members. İt is the only hotel in Turkey of its kind. It is recognized as a Class 1 national monument by the Ministry of Culture. There are 60 rooms and 9 suites to accommodate 130 guests. The swimming pool in a verdant surrounding of trees is the outcome of a building design in harmony with nature. Splendid Palace Hotel is one of Turkey’s handful hotels that have been assigned special status by the Tourism Ministry, due to its unforgettable historical and cultural heritage. The New York Times describes the Splendid Palace as "an Art Nouveau-flavoured wedding cake of a hotel, located only two blocks from the clock tower. Built in 1908, the hotel is double-domed, white as icing and grandly down-at-heel, with four tiers of balconied rooms and crimson shutters." In 2015, Splendid Palace became the home of the fantastic “O Sentimental Machine” installation by William Kentridge at the 14th Istanbul Biennial, SALTWATER.
