Shopping in Marmara Region

The Marmara Region is the most dynamic and commercially active area of our country. In fact, everything you seek in other regions can be found here. For example, in Istanbul, it is safe to say that there is almost nothing you cannot find. Souvenirs, local delicacies from every region, investment opportunities, and all trending products you can imagine are available.

Still, we wanted to provide you with information on what is famous in the Marmara Region. From Balıkesir, you can buy olives, olive oil products, lor dessert, dairy products, and needle lace. Although Bilecik borders other regions, it is also part of the Marmara Region. From there, you can get halva, boza, wooden carvings, pottery, pomegranates, and quinces.

Now, let’s talk about the famous Bursa also known as "Green Bursa." It is an important hub for both industry and nature. In Bursa, you can purchase chestnuts and chestnut-based sweets, Turkish delight, black Bursa figs, Bursa peaches, silk fabric, Bursa textiles, knives, and pocketknives, all of which are products of long-standing traditions.

From Çanakkale, a historically significant city, you can take home Gelincik Delight, Bayramiç carpets, ceramics, pottery, handmade carpets, and antique items.

What about Edirne? The list is long. In Edirne, you can find wine, scented soap, almonds and almond-based products, hardaliye (a grape-based drink), the iconic "Aynalı Süpürge" (mirrored broom), and the famous Kavala cookies, which are popular near the border.

From Kırklareli, you can buy various woven textiles, molasses, dairy products, cheese, and halva.

Moving on to one of the major production centers Kocaeli (Izmit). Here, you can get Hereke carpets, wicker baskets, pişmaniye (a type of cotton candy), simit, yogurt, cherries, and medicinal spring water.

Sakarya is another major production hub in the region. From there, you can purchase handwoven baskets and bags, boxwood spoons and combs, glassware, quilts, pumpkin dessert, copperware, wooden crafts, and hazelnuts.

Tekirdağ also offers many specialties unique to the region, including carpets and rugs, prayer mats, Şarköy grape wine, saddlebags, Tekirdağ rakı, pickles, homemade pasta, and tomato paste.

Yalova is famous for its soap flowers, ornamental plants, calligraphic artworks, silver jewelry, and miniature crafts.

Finally, Istanbul. As mentioned earlier, if something cannot be found in Istanbul, it likely cannot be found anywhere in Turkey. While there may be exceptions, this holds true for most cases. If you visit Istanbul and wish to take home something special, consider buying Turkish coffee, jewelry and accessories, Istanbul-themed souvenirs, boza, local sweets, or antique books from second-hand bookstores.
