Things to do in Cunda Island
On the island, you can visit historical buildings and monasteries such as the Taksiharyis Church and the Agios Yannis Church. You can hike up to Âşıklar Tepesi (Lovers' Hill) to enjoy a stunning view of the island and Ayvalık, and see the region's first windmills. Cunda Island has many old settlements left by the Greeks. One of these places is the Pateriça Villages area, which you can explore. You can also enjoy fresh seasonal fish and delicious mezes at the seaside restaurants. Cunda Meze Restaurant is known for its legendary mezes, and the yogurt-coated fish is particularly delicious. Don’t miss visiting the windmill, which offers a panoramic view of the entire island. You will also find a large historic library there.
You can taste the local papalina fish and various mezes, and try the traditional Lokma dessert. At the famous Taş Kahve, you can enjoy a frothy Turkish coffee while overlooking the sea. In the evenings, you can stroll through the bazaar in the town center and shop for souvenirs. You can also walk around the cobblestone streets of the island and take plenty of photos.
For beaches, Kesebir Beach, Minas Beach, and Badavut Beach have beautiful waters, and you can relax at Muzo Beach. However, our two favorites are Ortunc Bay and Sobe Beach in Paterica (adults-only). If the Poyraz wind blows, Ortunc Beach (a paid and expensive option) or Ada Camping or Mocamp are good alternatives. Other favorite beaches include Mola Beach in Paterica and Ayvalık Sarımsaklı Beach.
To discover hidden coves, you can join day-trip boat tours.
You can visit Şeytan Sofrası (The Devil’s Table) and see the spot where the devil's footprint is said to be located.
A day trip to Midilli Island by ferry is also a great option for a different experience.
You can visit the Sevim-Necdet Kent Library, which was once a church. Abandoned in 1924, Agios Yannis was restored in 2007 and now serves as both a library and café. Don’t forget to enjoy the panoramic views from Agios Yannis, which is located on a hill overlooking Cunda.
Another must-see is the Taksiyarhis Church, an Orthodox church built in 1873, showcasing Byzantine architectural features. Don’t miss the hike from II. Village to Ai Dimitri Ta Salina Monastery and Panayia Monastery along the coast.
For a day trip, Ayvalık is just a 10-minute walk from Ferahi Evler Hotel and is perfect for exploration. From Şeytan Sofrası, you can enjoy panoramic views of Ayvalık and the Midilli Islands. The Tımarhane Island, Çıplak Tepe, and İlkkurşun Tepe offer breathtaking views that will leave you in awe.
