Things to do in Orhaniye
The most famous place in Orhaniye is of course Kızkumu. A naturally formed shallow path through the sea that gives you the feeling of walking in the middle of it... Shoes in your hands, the water up to your knees, you both walk and look at the deep blue landscape around you. At sunset, the place takes on a completely different atmosphere. You don't go here for the photographs, but just to experience that moment.
The sea is extraordinarily calm here. You get into glassy water with no waves. Especially early in the morning, it is a different pleasure to swim in the sea. While the boats sway gently, you swim in water almost like a lake. If you want to explore a little more, it is possible to reach bays such as Selimiye and Bozburun with daily boat tours from Orhaniye. Each one is like a different postcard. No crowds, no music, just nature and the sea...
Orhaniye is also ideal for hiking. Hiking paths leading to the surrounding mountain villages pass through olive groves and pine forests. After breakfast, you can reach completely different landscapes with a light walk. Especially in September-October, the air is cool and nature is at its greenest.
Don't worry about the food. The restaurants in the region are quite successful. You can sit for a long time at the tables prepared with fresh seafood in the fish restaurants on the beach. You should especially try the appetizers with olive oil and the calamari cooked in the embers. Homemade lemonades and fresh tomato salads are also a must. If you prefer more shabby places, there are small restaurants serving local dishes in the village.
My Orhaniye Recommendations
- Walk to the sunset at Kızkumu. Walking with your feet in the sea and the sky turning orange gives an indescribable peace.
- Take a swim in the sea early in the morning. A glassy, quiet and almost private sea experience.
- Spend a day on a boat tour. Daily tours to bays such as Selimiye and Bozburun take you into nature.
- Eat at the shabby restaurants in the village. Home-cooked meals, olive oil dishes and cozy environments are good for your soul.
- Sit on the pier in the evening. If you have a coffee in your hand and a book by your side, what more can you ask for?
- Be sure to try calamari and sea beans. They are served fresh at the fish restaurants on the beach.
- Slow down. Orhaniye doesn't like to rush. Let the time pass a little.
