Places to see in Bafa Lake

The surroundings of Lake Bafa are full of natural beauty. You can go on nature exploration walks by the lake or in the woods. However, if you want to spend time full of history, here are our suggestions...   

You can go to Kapkırı village to see the ruins of Herakleia Ancient City. Because the ruins of the 7th century BC city remain within the borders of the village today. Within the borders of the ancient city are the Temple of Athena, theater, agora, council building and Endymion Temple.    

Apart from these, you can also see the monasteries on the large and small islets in Lake Bafa and on the rocks of Latmos Mountain. These places were used as a refuge for monks during the Byzantine period. As a result of the excavations, it is known that there are 13 monasteries in the region.   

Also, if you like a bit of mystery as well as history, the prehistoric caves in and around Lake Bafa are the perfect excursion areas for you. Like the monasteries, there are also rock paintings in the caves, which were also home to monks.   

To witness the natural beauties, you can also visit the lake surroundings and Menderes National Park, which has been declared a natural park.
