Places to see in Cunda Island

In this small and charming island, there are several must-see spots. First and foremost is Âşıklar Tepesi (Lovers' Hill), which offers a rare view of the island. From here, you can also visit the Agios Yannis Church. Additionally, this hill is home to the island’s first windmill, which is worth seeing.

Another place you should visit is Ay Işığı Monastery (Moonlight Monastery). The monastery has preserved its unique natural structure largely intact to this day. You can also visit the Kızlar Monastery, which is also known as the “Monastery of the Girls.”

To get a closer look at the surrounding small islands and the stunning sea, you can take a day boat tour.

You should definitely visit Şeytan Sofrası (Devil’s Table), which is just 5 minutes by car from Ayvalık center. It is believed to be the site of the devil’s footprint, which is why it got its name. A small depression resembling a footprint is enclosed in a cage, and this intriguing spot attracts both local and foreign tourists. It is definitely a place worth seeing.

You can also visit Sevim and Necdet Kent Library. This former dilapidated church and mill has been restored and transformed into a library. Operated under the Rahmi Koç Museum and Cultural Foundation, the library is open every day except Monday.

Cennet Ada Cove is a great place to swim. It is one of the most beautiful coves of the island, with crystal-clear water and sandy beaches calling out to vacationers.

You can also visit Cunda Despot House, which was built by the Greeks and is one of the most magnificent and oldest buildings on the island. It has served different purposes throughout history, and it is one of the places you must visit before it changes.

On the opposite side of Çamlık Cove, you can visit Tımarhane Island (Stone Monastery) on a small island. The view from here, overlooking Cunda Island and Çamlık Cove, provides an unforgettable experience.

Where to Go in Ayvalık?

Known for its Meltem and Imbat winds, Ayvalık is also located near many famous historical and tourist sites.

When you visit Ayvalık, be sure to explore Ayvalık’s town center and market. You can also join a daily boat tour to discover some secluded and untouched coves. Take a walk through Ayvalık’s narrow, cobbled streets and capture plenty of photographs. You can also see the town’s historical houses, many of which were built by the Greeks, and their original architecture has remained largely intact.

If you’re a history enthusiast, you can visit Ayvalık Taksiyarhis Church. Other historical buildings worth visiting include Aya Athanasiu Church, Ayazma Church, Profit Iliyas Church, and Agia Paraskevi Monastery.

For a closer look at more recent history, you can visit the Ottoman-era mosques like Saatli Mosque, Hacı Bayram Mosque, and Ayvalık Hamidiye Mosque, which are some of the most important historical sites in the area.

During your visit to Ayvalık, you can plan a day trip to Cunda Island or Şeytan Sofrası. Cunda Island, one of the most popular spots, is known for its historical houses, fish restaurants, the famous Taş Kahve (Stone Coffee), Cunda Lovers' Hill, and Cennet Ada Cove, all of which are definitely worth visiting. You can unwind and sip your coffee at Taş Kahve, and you’ll fall in love with it, just like we did.

Şeytan Sofrası is believed to be the site of the devil’s footprint, and it offers one of the best sunset views in the region. Located just 2 kilometers from the Ayvalık center, this spot is a must-see when in the area.

Sarımsaklı Beach is another beautiful location where you can sunbathe on the pristine, soft sand and swim in its crystal-clear, shallow waters. The long sandy beach is lined with small cafes, making it a perfect spot to relax.

If you’d like to cool off, consider planning a picnic in Kozak Plateau near Ayvalık. Located in Bergama, Kozak Plateau offers fresh, cold water and clean, crisp air. It’s one of the region’s popular picnic areas.
