Mount Ida Places to Visit

Kaz Mountains, one of the world's significant oxygen reservoirs, not just of our country but globally, is a place that words may not fully describe. Although it appears as a small mountain area by name, Kaz Mountains are filled with natural beauties, camping areas, historical sites, and mythological figures, making it a region worth spending more than just a day exploring. We recommend not rushing through your visit.

Among the must-see spots is the Hasanboğuldu Waterfall, a visually stunning location tied to a true story that has inspired books and films. This waterfall is a chilling stream of water cascading between rocks and mountains.

Continuing with waterfalls, Pınarbaşı and Sütüven Waterfalls are other natural wonders that you should not miss. With their surrounding picnic areas, these waterfalls attract significant interest today.

Be sure to hike up to Sarıkız Hill, where you can learn the legendary story of Sarıkız and enjoy the panoramic view of Edremit Bay along with the Ayvalık and Lesbos (Midilli) Island.

Around the Kaz Mountains National Park, there are beautiful villages left behind by Greeks and later settled by Turks. These villages include Çamlıbel Village, Kızılkeçili Village, and Adatepe Village. With their restored Greek and Turkish architecture blending harmoniously, these are mesmerizing places. Take a walk along these cobblestone streets, try the local ice cream, and enjoy tea at one of the peaceful tea gardens.

Don't miss the Tahtakuşlar Village Ethnography Gallery, a charming exhibition space where you can closely see various artifacts. Additionally, you can also visit the Kazdağı Museum for more insights.

After witnessing the clearest form of water and nature at Darıdere Nature Park, you can head to Şahindere Canyon. This canyon stretches over 20 km, offering a fantastic opportunity to fill your lungs with fresh oxygen.

If you have an interest in history, be sure to visit the Ancient City of Antandros.

There's also a magnificent natural terrace known as the Zeus Altar near the entrance of Adatepe Village. The road leading to it may be a bit rough, and if you take a shuttle, there will be a bit of a walk, but the path through the forest opens up to a breathtaking view overlooking the Aegean Sea. We highly recommend not leaving without seeing this spot. The altar, believed to be a place where sacrifices were made to Zeus in ancient mythology, offers a stunning view of the Edremit Bay don't forget to take plenty of pictures!

Editor's Special Note: If you plan your visit to Kaz Mountains well, you can turn small moments into lasting memories. Having a vehicle is a great advantage, as there are many surprising spots to explore in this open-air museum-like region. The absolute must-see places we recommend are Yeşilyurt Village, Paleo Gargara Ancient City, Arıklı, Behram Village, Assos Ancient Harbor, and Glass Terrace in Altınoluk. Suggested activities include nature walks, village visits, and jeep safaris.
